1. Choose the right day to clean your windows
You might think a bright summer’s day is the perfect time to clean the windows, but you’d be wrong. If it’s too warm, your window cleaning spray will dry too quickly and leave smears on the pane. If it’s too bright, you can end up blinding yourself with the reflection off the glass.
2. Clear away the dirt and dust
Before you apply your window cleaning solution, you need to sweep away any noticeable dust and dirt. If you don’t, it will end up mixing with the cleaner until it’s more like painting the windows than washing them!
3. Don’t hold back on the cleaner
Window cleaning products are formulated to dissolve dirt and grime, suspending it so it can be easily rinsed clear of the window pane. If you try to skimp on the spray, it won’t be able to do its job and you won’t be able to finish yours.
4. Use the right cloth for drying
Traditionally, people used newspaper to dry their newly cleaned windows but, these days, you should invest in a reusable microfibre cloth. Not only are they washable and incredibly absorbent, they leave your panes gleaming and streak free.
5. Beware the squeegee
Professional domestic window cleaners swear by the humble squeegee, but they take some practice. If you don’t know what you’re doing with them, odds are that you’ll end up making quite the mess as you push the excess water and cleaning solution down towards the bottom of the pane.
6. Don’t try cleaning all your windows in one day
